Matthew Miller is a graduate student in the Cognitive Engineering Center at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Matthew's current research focuses on the development of decision support systems for astronaut extravehicular activity in communication delayed environments. This work is sponsored by the NASA Space Technology Research Fellowship (NSTRF) and support from the Johnson Space Center.

Prior to joining the CEC in January 2014, Matthew completed his masters work in the Space Systems Design Laboratory. This work focused on advancing decelerator technology on board small spacecraft. Matthew has completed summer internships at Aerospace Corporation and Draper Laboratory, and worked as a co-op student with ATA Engineering for three years. During these experiences, he developed missions for micro-spacecraft, cost models for spacecraft, and performed analyses of spacecraft structural components.

NSTRF - Decision Support System Development for Human Extravehicular Activity

Human spaceflight is arguably one of mankind's most challenging engineering feats, requiring carefully crafted synergy between human and technological capabilities. One critical component of human spaceflight pertains to the activity conducted outside the safe confines of the spacecraft, known as Extravehicular Activity (EVA). Successful execution of EVAs requires significant effort and real-time communication between astronauts who perform the EVA and the ground personnel who provide real-time support.
